An artsy lunch hour escape! Every Wednesday, from August through December, Bailey Contemporary Arts will be hosting hands-on art workshops. With a different theme each week, simply pack a lunch and head out to learn something new at this 5-month-long series. This month, you’ll be able to try your hand at paper collages, acrylic paintings, marker drawings, and graphic design posters.

Check out all your favorite local vendors, from fresh fruit to crafts, antiques, local honey and cheeses, and much more at this favorite market by the beach. There are even cooking classes and yoga events as well.
Back to School Slime Time: Weekends in August
Museum of Discovery and Science, 401 SW 2nd St, Fort Lauderdale
Making sure the kids have a cute-and-gooey close to summer, the Museum of Discovery and Science will be hosting weekend Slime Labs throughout the month of August. Little ones will get to learn how to make their own slime, take pictures in front of the slime wall, learn how to make slime bubbles, and take all their slimy creations home too.
projectROCK Themed Summer Camps: August 2-6 & 9-13

Let those little campers squeeze in as much summer fun as possible as they get to the tail-end of their holidays. Down to the last two themes at projectRock, children can sign up for Pirates of the Carabiners, where they get to plunder treasure and climb to the top of the crow’s nest, or simply indulge in all sorts of whacky games to let off steam at the Summer Send camp.

Rocky and the Rollers Concert: August 7
Aventura Arts & Cultural Center, 3385 NE 188th St, Aventura
Get your dancing shoes on and get ready to Doo-Wop with Rocky and the Rollers. Best known for taking you back to the magic of the 1950s through the 70s, this legendary rock band is famous for its family-friendly acts that will have you all dancing all night. Facial coverings are required and seatings are set in socially distanced pods.
Ocean Conservation Day: August 7
Las Olas Oceanside Park, 3000 E. Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale
Now in its 4th year, SOS Ocean Conservation Day is here with its mission to help bring awareness to our ocean and to preserve and protect our living coral reef ecosystems. With a full day of activities, bring the whole family and learn about coral, manatees, lionfish, sharks, sea turtles, manta rays, whales, lobstering, fishing practices, and so much more.
The day’s event line-up includes:

Love orchids? Then you have to attend these in-person classes by master curator Jose Exposito and his team, who has also been featured in Orchids Magazine, Vogue, and the Martha Stewart Show:
- Starting with the basics of orchid planting on August 10, Jose will introduce you to the various types of orchids, how to select the best location for growing, and an introduction to various cultivation techniques.
- More experienced growers will appreciate the August 17 session that focuses on transplanting, repotting, and combating pests plus diseases.

Get ready for an evening of music under the stars! For 42 years, the City of Fort Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Department has offered the Starlight Musicals free concert series. Sunset Salutation Yoga: August 12

Fort Lauderdale Beach Sweep: August 14 & 28

Starting at 8 am every other Saturday, help our beautiful beaches and oceans stay clean and plastic-free. Did you know that volunteers typically collect 100 pounds of trash, 25 pounds of recyclables and more? You can help protect our treasured nature resource and wildlife like birds, turtles and dolphins. Tools are provided, but you may want to bring your own gloves.
Full MoonRise Beach Yoga + Full Moon Kundalini Sound Healing: August 19 & 20

Movies by Moonlight: August 20

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and favorite companion to the new Movies by Moonlight Summer Series on the Main Lawn at Las Olas Oceanside Park. This month features the romantic comedy (500) Days of Summer, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a greeting-card writer and hopeless romantic who is caught completely off-guard when his girlfriend, Zooey Deschanel, has other ideas for their relationship. All movies begin at sunset, or between 7:45 and 8:15 pm. After the movie, there’s still plenty to do with a market, live music, and more.

Intro to Colored Pencil Drawing & Painting: August 21 & 24

Adults looking to hone their drawing skills should definitely enroll for this 2.5-hour class at the Bonnet House Museum. Drawing instructor Galal Ramadan will be teaching colored pencil techniques that will help you create artwork that usually requires years to master. You can register for classes taking place on the 21st or 24th of August.
Riverwalk Bike Fest: August 28

Randy Rainbow - The Pink Glasses Tour: August 29

Known as America’s favorite musical satirist, Randy Rainbow will be performing live at the Au-Rene Theater this August. The two-time Emmy-nominated singer, writer, and comedian will be bringing his best parodies and more to the stage, as he performs alongside some of Broadway’s finest musicians. The evening will also feature personal stories, an audience Q&A, and brand-new songs written by Rainbow.

Save Our Seas Distinguished Speaker Series: August 5
Join Alina Wierczorek, a Ph.D. student at the University of Ireland, as she talks about Microplastics as part of the Museum of Discovery and Science’s Save Our Seas virtual series. This free virtual presentation is a great learning opportunity for all ages, as it features scientists, conservationists, researchers, and educators sharing their passion for the ocean along with their research-discoveries.
Marvel’s Avengers Dance-Along + Disney & Broadway Sing-Along: August 14 & 21
Running out of ideas on how to have fun at home? Don’t worry, the Broward Center for Performing Arts has your back! With two free virtually interactive events lined up this August, the kids will be looking forward to getting online and grooving with their favorite characters and tunes. Creativity Exploration: Intention Boxes: August 14

All you need is a box of your choice and some easily found raw materials to help bring your vision to life. One of the most popular education programs at the NSU Art Museum, this workshop is meant to promote creativity, mindfulness, and self-expression via art-making.
Zoom Conversations with the Stonewall: August 5, 19
As part of its monthly Zoom conversations, the Stonewall National Museum and Archives brings you two free events this August:
- Join activist and writer Minnie Bruce Pratt, on the 5th of August, as she talks about her poetry book Magnified – a collection of love poems.
- Join artist Lamar Peterson, on the 19th of August, as he discusses his drawing and painting practice spanning from cartoon landscapes populated by African American suburbanites to surreal portraits of Michael Jackson.
