The new plan that was revealed shows that the number of retail outlets and restaurants will be doubled by 2017. The number of retail shops and restaurants will increase by 60, and there will be a new hotel and residence component, as well as parking to house the upcoming masses.
The new addition will include the Sweetbird North Hotel, Sweetbird South Residences, the Museum Garage, Paradise Plaza, and the Institute of Contemporary Art.
Sweetbird North Hotel will be a 10-story, 100-room hotel that will be designed by Neri and Hu. The Sweetbird South Residences is a 14-story, 70-unit condo building that is being designed by Studio Gang. The Museum Garage will add some of the 1,200 new parking spaces that will come to the area. Paradise Plaza will be a retail building that will anchor a plaza filled with local and cultural art, and is being designed by Johnston Marklee. The Institute of Contemporary Art will house a museum of fine arts, is being designed by Aranguren & Gallegos, and will be funded by private donations, with a land donation from the Design District Associates.
