Discussions regarding a potential light rail system in Miami are underway once again

Feb 13, 2014 February 13, 2014

As part of the renewed discussion, potential routes were discussed publicly for the first time.

While Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado and Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez have stated a preference for the rail to transect the MacArthur Causeway, transportation director of Miami Beach, José González, has reiterated that Miami Beach has not yet determined a route.

Current discussions were revived during a meeting regarding the Beach Corridor Transit Connection Study project. The $325,000 project study, which is funded by several state agencies and local governments, has been focused on the development of a light rail system that will potentially cross Biscayne Bay through the MacArthur Causeway.
