Insider’s Guide to Top Miami Art Galleries and Artist Collectives

Miami, in addition to fun in the sun, has a highly sophisticated art scene and some of the best places to see visual art in the U.S.  Local galleries tend to feature contemporary work across all media – drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, installation, ceramics, design, and all manner of visual artistic expression, with several specializing in Latin American and Caribbean art. 

Whether you're a seasoned art collector, acquiring your first few serious pieces, or you just want to keep up with the global art scene, Miami is a great city in which to view an amazing range of the coolest art from around the world, as well as to discover the exciting gamut of local talent that surrounds us.  

We've compiled a list of some of the best art galleries in Miami, including alternative art spaces and artist studio communities where you may get opportunities to purchase work directly from the artists themselves, as well as commercial art galleries where you can view and purchase great new additions to your growing art collection. 

If you're serious about viewing work to purchase, we recommend visiting galleries on the Thursday prior to the monthly art walk, when many stay open into the late evening.


Miami Artist Communities and Open Studios



Artist communities are centers where artists work. In these spaces you can meet artists personally, talk to them about their work, and buy artwork directly from them. This makes the experience of buying art more personal, and you can feel great about supporting artists directly. This is also an opportunity to have a work commissioned if you really like an artist's work.


Bakehouse Art Complex, Wynwood

Bakehouse Art Complex is one of Miami's oldest artists' communities, where you can visit over 100 individual artist studios housed in an old Art Deco building that was once a bakery in Wynwood, with studios and galleries open to the public.


Fountainhead Studios, Little River

Fountainhead Studios is a residency program located in Little River that provides studio space for over 30 artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, and hosts ongoing open studio programs and exhibitions.

Oolite Arts, South Beach

Oolite Arts is a community of artists' studios and exhibition spaces in South Beach on the pedestrian Lincoln Road that is open to the public. The organization also provides commissions and incubation opportunities for new work by local artists.


Primary Gallery, Little River

Primary Gallery in Little River is a private live/work residence that supports a context and research driven curatorial collective, presents exhibitions, and promotes work by established artists such as Judy Chicago and Mickalene Thomas.




Miami Art Galleries



Commercial art galleries are privately-owned spaces generally led by experienced and often specialized curators and gallerists who act as a liaison between artists and the collectors that want to buy their work. Gallerists also provide an array of art consulting services.


Wynwood Art Galleries



Ascaso Gallery

With exhibition spaces in Miami's Wynwood Arts District as well as in Caracas, Venezuela, Ascaso Gallery represents mid-century and contemporary masters, mid-career and established artists from around the world, including Yaacov Aram, Vasarely, Koons, Marisol Escobar and more. 


David Castillo Gallery

One of Miami's most respected and beloved galleries, David Castillo Gallery is known for its curatorial excellence, cutting-edge exhibitions, and focus on ground-breaking artists of color, women, and queer artists.


Art Fusion Galleries

Art Fusion Galleries represents emerging and mid-career contemporary and pop artists from around the world and displays rotating exhibitions of work in various media.


Espace Expression

Espace is a unique fine art gallery specializing in Constructivism, Geometric Abstraction, Kinetic Art, Video Art, and Photography. A current exhibition features Cruz-Diaz, Soto and Vasarely. 


The Center for Visual Communication

The Center for Visual Communication has been in existence for 20 years, organizing and presenting museum quality exhibitions of visual art and new media in South Florida. At their 10,000 square foot space in Wynwood, they showcase work by established and recognized international artists as well as emerging local and regional artists.

Fredric Snitzer Gallery

One of Miami's longest-standing and respected galleries, Fredric Snitzer Gallery first opened in 1977. The gallery features contemporary works of art by emerging and mid-career artists working in various media, including painting, sculpture, mixed media, and photography. 


Harold Golen Gallery

Harold Golen Gallery is a Wynwood landmark, specializing in surreal pop art, collectible vintage objects, and whimsical surprises to entertain your creative spirit and add a playful influence to your décor.


Mindy Solomon Gallery

Represents contemporary emerging and mid-career artists working in painting, sculpture, photography, and video, and specializes in art advisory services. Exploring the intersection of art and design the gallery exhibits two and three-dimensional art and design objects in different media, while also showcasing work by artists from diverse backgrounds. The gallery also is active in the arts community, providing public lectures as well. 


Spinello Projects

Spinello Projects was founded in 2005, and represents an eclectic assortment of contemporary established and emerging artists, including several local artists such as Juana Valdés, Antonia Wright, and Agustina Woodgate. 


Tresart Gallery

Launched in 2006, Tresart Gallery specializes in secondary market sales of works by prominent Latin American and European masters.




Design District Art Galleries



Fine Art Auctions Miami (FAAM)

Set in the heart of the Design District, and with offices in New York and Paris, FAAM is not an actual gallery, but rather Florida's foremost fine art auction house. They specialize in Latin American, Russian, Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary art and hold about 10 major auctions a year.


Galéries Bartoux

Galéries Bartoux is part of an international group of 18 fine art galleries located in France, Monaco, London, New York, and Miami, that represent contemporary artists from around the world working in painting, sculpture, and other mediums. It is a can't miss gallery in the Design District. 


WYN 317 Gallery

Miami's Design District supports fresh, up-and-coming, mid-career, and established native and international artists as well as local legends. Focusing on Miami-centered aesthetics ranging from Wynwood's graffiti culture to a variety of pop art influences, WYN 317 takes pride in exhibiting and representing home-grown Miami art.


Art Angels

Art Angels features a provocative, eclectic selection of work by established and emerging artists that attracts collectors from all over the world. 


Kerr Gallery

Kerr Gallery relocated to Miami after 40 successful years in New York City's Metropolitan Museum Historic District and continues to specialize in in traditional African art and objects, as well as contemporary art by established and emerging Latin American, African, and African-American artists.


Markowicz Fine Art

Located in Miami's Design District with an additional space in Dallas, features work by established international artists such as Warhol and Botero, as well as emerging artists. 


Ranivilu Art Gallery

Ranivilu is a small private gallery specializing in geometric abstraction and kinetic art, and representing both masters and emerging artists from Latin America, Europe, and around the world.


Opera Gallery

With spaces in the Design District and Bal Harbour, as well as Paris, Singapore New York, Aspen, London, Monaco, Geneva, Dubai, Beirut, Hong Kong and Seoul, Opera Gallery specializes in an eclectic mix of work by both established and emerging young artists working across all media including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography and video.


Rosenfeld Gallery

Founded in 1970 in New York, Rosenfeld Gallery moved to the Miami Design District in 2020. The gallery showcases modern and contemporary masters and provides a range of consultant art advising services for curators, collectors, and exhibitors. 


Studio Mora & Gallery

Studio Mora & Gallery is the private studio and gallery of painter Enrique "Quique" Mora who specializes in works on canvas and paper, influenced by his Puerto Rican heritage and Caribbean upbringing. The artist also has a gallery in San Juan, Puerto Rico.




Little Haiti & Little River Art Galleries



Emerson Dorsch Gallery

Emerson Dorsch Gallery, an anchor of Miami's local contemporary art scene, is a contemporary art gallery that represents a core group of select South Florida-based artists, while also hosting and representing visiting artists. Located in Little Haiti, and directed by husband and wife team Brook Dorsch and Tyler Emerson-Dorsch, the gallery hosts an array of lectures, artists' talks and events, and fosters art patronage as well as community-building activities. 


Diana Lowenstein Gallery

Located in the Magic City Innovation District in Little Haiti, Diana Lowenstein Gallery has been a staple in the local and international art scene for decades. Originally based in Argentina, Diana Lowenstein opened her Miami gallery in 2000 and features work by Argentinian artists, as well as artists from Latin America and Europe.


Pan American Art Projects

Pan American Art Projects in Little Haiti specializes in art of the Americas and aims to build a cultural bridge between North and South America by concurrently presenting and exhibiting artists from both regions working across various disciplines. Pan American Projects represents emerging to established artists, and provides consultant and advising services to its international base of collectors.


Piero Atchugarry Gallery

Piero Atchugarry Gallery, now in Little Haiti, was originally founded in Garzón, Uruguay, where it still maintains a gallery space. The gallery primarily represents artists from Brazil, Cuba, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Uruguay, United States and Venezuela.


Bill Brady Gallery

Located in Little River, Bill Brady showcases a diverse list of emerging and established artists based in the US and internationally.


Irazoqui Art Gallery

Previously located in Wynwood and now in Little River, Irazoqui provides an "eloquent space for the unique artistic voices of this generation," featuring work in diverse media by local and international contemporary emerging and established artists.


Dot Fiftyone Gallery

Dot Fiftyone Gallery was founded in 2003 and now is in the Little River Arts District. The gallery focuses on contemporary Latin American art by emerging and established artists "whose works encourage dynamic ideas and discourses." The gallery also hosts workshops, lectures, events, and philanthropical programs.
 


N'Namdi Contemporary

With galleries in Chicago, New York, and Miami's Little River neighborhood, specializes in work by established international masters combined with work by mid-career and emerging artists from around the world.




Coconut Grove Art Galleries



Midori Gallery

Midori Gallery specializes in unique collectible objects and home furnishings, including archaic ceramics, lacquer and porcelain objects, screens, scrolls, wall art, wood block prints, and sculptures. 


Berniece Steinbaum Gallery

Another of Miami's most respected and established galleries, Bernice Steinbaum has earned a reputation as one of the most respected figures of the art scene in the United States. Founded in New York City in 1977, Berniece Steinbaum Gallery represents a large and diverse pool of women artists and artists of color working across various disciplines.




Coral Gables Art Galleries



ArtSpace Virginia Miller Galleries

Established in the mid-1970s, Virginia Miller is one of Miami's oldest galleries and specializes in works by historic and contemporary Latin American and European artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. 


Jorge M. Sori Fine Art

Jorge M. Sori Fine Art specializes in selling and promoting work by established artists, particularly Latin American masters, in addition to advising clients on customizing their art collections.


The Americas Collection

The Americas Collection was founded in 1991 and specializes in quality artwork from a wide assortment of emerging, mid-career, and master artists from Latin America, Europe and the United States.


Cernuda Arte Gallery

Specializing in Cuban art for more than 25 years, Cernuda Arte offers a mix of Cuban art from the 19th and 20th centuries, including Modern and Protest Art.




Greater Downtown Miami & Brickell Art Galleries



Avant Gallery, Brickell

Located in Brickell City Centre, with additional gallery spaces in New York City and Dubai, Avant Gallery showcases contemporary photography, painting, and sculpture, in addition to home furnishing and collectibles.


Gary Nader Art Centre, Edgewater

In the heart of Edgewater is one of Miami's most successful galleries. Specializing in Latin American masters such as Botero, Gary Nader also features large sculptural works as well as paintings and other objects.


Nina Torres Fine Art, Edgewater

Ninao Torres Fine Art is an exquisite 8,000 square foot waterfront gallery located in Quantum on the Bay Condominium in Edgewater that features contemporary art exhibitions and is also available for private functions.


Sammer Gallery LLC, Midtown Miami

Sammer Gallery specializes in Latin American Abstraction, and remains committed to promoting the most important geometric art movements in Latin America including constructivism and concrete art.  Sammer Gallery LLC also provides consultation for museums, private institutions, and international collectors.


Waltman Ortega Fine Art

Nestled between Edgewater and Wynwood, Waltman Ortega Fine Art represents emerging, mid-career, and established international artists working in painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video and design.  The gallery also hosts an international artist's residency to bring visiting artists to Miami.




Miami Alternative Art Spaces



Alternative art spaces are typically spaces run by nonprofits, often led and organized by artists themselves, where you can see and discover art that may not be decorative in nature, and in many cases may not be for sale, but exposes you to the movements and trends in the contemporary art world.

  • Locust Projects was founded in 1998 in Miami's Design District and is Miami's longest-running alternative art space, and is an incubator for commissioned works by local and visiting artists, curated exhibitions, events, and community outreach programs.
  • Dimensions Variable (DV) is an artist-driven project located in Miami's Little River neighborhood that provides studio space, curates exhibitions, publishes content, and coordinates educational outreach and events for the community.
  • Edge Zones Art Space in Wynwood is another artist-driven contemporary exhibition and performance space specializing in cultural exchange projects with artists from Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Laundromat Art Space is an artist-run residency program and exhibition space located in Little Haiti that houses 10 artist studios and a gallery, and provides community programming such as art classes, as well as contemporary art exhibitions.



While new galleries and exhibition spaces keep popping up all over the city, we've listed some of the most established and respected galleries in the Miami area.
