Miami-Dade Circuit Closes Down Foreclosure Courts Due to Fewer Foreclosures

As the backlog of foreclosure cases is finally slowing down, the Miami-Dade Circuit Court will no longer dedicate three courtrooms to those kinds of cases.
Jennifer Bailet, Circuit Judge and head of the civil courts, ordered that the trials and summary judgments that involve foreclosures will be handled bu circuit judges instead of senior judges in the dedicated courtrooms.
The end of Florida’s fiscal year is June 30th, whereby the Miami-Dade foreclosure courts will shut down.
Back in 2013, due to a rising number of foreclosures in Florida, the state government granted extra funding, temporary staffing, and other resources to deal with them. The state has not renewed the extra funding, but the foreclosure cases are slowing down.
“As a result of the foreclosure project,” Bailey said, “through the hard work and tireless efforts of the circuit’s division judges, senior judges and the staff of the Administrative Office of the Courts, the backlog of foreclosure cases has largely been resolved.”
In addition to these changes, Bailey has set in an order to shut down the foreclosure courts, and allow permit judges to sort through foreclosures with only paperwork, granted that the parties involved do not set a hearing in a timely manner.
