The temperatures are picking up and it’s time to lather on the sun tan and cool off with some awesome events around town. Here’s our pick of the hippest festivals in Miami to make for a magnificent May:
SunFest Music and Arts Festival ~ May 3-7
West Palm Beach
Five days of music mania returns to West Palm Beach in all its glory. There will be 3 stages and 50 bands to keep you rocking to the beat and into the weekend. This year’s exciting lineup includes Blink 182, Flo Rida, Snoop Dogg, Sunghosts, Tayla Parx, Ambrosia, Magic City Hippies, Ryan McKenzie, Joe Galaxy, Lillie Mae, Battle of the Bands winner Rocket to Anywhere and more.
A first this year, there will be a revamped Art District – so no more juried art shows. Instead, there will be interactive installations, live artist demos, and a collection of jewelry to sculptures from 60 artists and vendors at the ‘Shop’. Also, expect floating bars, a ChillZone, great eats and fireworks on closing night!
Cinco de Mayo ~ May 5
Brickell and Wynwood
It’s time to tip your sombreros (and tequilas) to the Mexican army’s victory over France in 1862. The biggest drinking block party north of the border will hit Mary Brickell Village, complete with sombreros, mustaches, premium Margaritas, Mexican beer, tequila shots, DJs, mariachi bands, an 8-foot piñata and more.
There’s also an honorary Cinco de Mayo Crawl taking place at Wynwood for those who’d like a celebration closer home.
Brew at the Zoo ~ May 6
Zoo Miami, South Miami Heights
Who says the Zoo can only be a kid-friendly zone? With the Annual New Times’ Brew at the Zoo taking over Zoo Miami, adults will rediscover child-like wonder. Sample more than 100 local, international and craft beers with some amazing food and live music. Just make sure to have your resident encounters before you hit the brews. A part of the ticket proceeds will benefit Zoo Conservation.
South Florida Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry ~ May 12
Soho Studios, Wynwood
How about eating out to make sure no child goes hungry in America? The country’s top chefs, mixologists and wineries will be coming together to donate their time and talent for the ‘No Kid Hungry’ cause. Sample gourmet dishes from over 50 of the best chefs and restaurants in South Florida. VIP passes further get you access to the after party.
H.O.T. Challenge Golf Tournament ~ May 12
Miami Beach Golf Club, Mid-Beach
Go ahead and explore the Miami Beach Golf Club or mingle with golfers there for a great cause. The Hospitality Open Golf Tournament begins with a continental breakfast, followed by a luncheon, awards, auction, raffle and drawings. All proceeds go towards funding scholarships for African heritage men and women, who will be working in the local visitor industry post graduation.
Caribbean Market Day ~ May 13

Spend the day browsing through original Afro-Caribbean fashion, jewelry, shoes, accessories, beauty products, homeware, arts, music, books and everything you can find under the sun (quite literally). Also, make sure to have your fill of authentic local Caribbean food and Afro-Caribbean entertainment for a complete experience.
Mother’s Day ~ May 14

There’s a bunch of things to do in Miami for Mother’s Day (so no excuses). You could begin the day with an Infinite Flavorz Mother’s Day Brunch or wear your fanciest hats to the Mother’s Day Brunch #Hatitude.

Fine wine, craft beer, a cigar lounge, live music and domino games are sure to get you in high spirits. There’s also an automotive showcase, health and wellness, arts and crafts as well as a free kids zone in the nearby Brickell Park for added fun.
Memorial Weekend Comedy Festival ~ May 28

Get a light-hearted start to the Memorial Day Weekend with a fun evening at the James L. Knight Center. Comedians Bruce Bruce, Bill Bellamy, Luenell, DC Young Fly, Lavar Walker and Malik S. will be in their element for a highly entertaining night of laughs.

Mid-Beach
Pay homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country by showing up at the two-day Air and Sea Show. There will be jets flying overhead, powerboat racing demos, extreme water sports and America’s top musical acts playing live as a tribute to our heroes. Also keep an eye out for special offers usually available at the Miami Seaquarium and Jungle Island.
Sizzle Miami ~ May 25-29

Staying true to its name, Sizzle is one of the world’s most exciting urban gay events. This 5-day fest precedes and coincides with Memorial Day. This year, there will be a Pre.Game at Rooftop E11even, followed by a yacht party, ClubSpace dance party, SCAKHIM pool party, live Djs at Maps Backlot, Positively Fearless beach festival, and a HEART event.
Miami Fashion Week ~ May 31 - Jun 03

Attention all fashionistas and beach-wear lovers! The most-awaited international fashion week (unofficially) dedicated to resort and pre-spring collections will be back to spice up the runway. Expect more than 30 apparel designers and over 20 jewelry designers to have their collections on show. Not to mention all the glitterati and after-parties that will keep the atmosphere pumping.
