Midtown Versus Sunset Harbour: Who is the winner of the 2013 Curbed Cup First Round?
Dec 20, 2013 December 20, 2013
This year we're pairing Midtown, last year's reigning champ, with the neighborhood that got perhaps the most nominations of this year, and last year, Sunset Harbour. Arguably, however, last year was a bigger year for Sunset Harbour than this year was. Meanwhile the opposite is true for Midtown. What's new at Sunset Harbour? Palau continues to sell out, and with a tweaked design, finally made nice with the neighbors over on Sunset Island IV. The acclaimed restaurants, the multiple grocery stores in walking distance, the hop over to the Standard Hotel, and the burgeoning street life all lead to a very happy Sunset Harbour.
Midtown has been booming in both good and bad ways. With development practically happening in every direction, the area is poised for yet another seismic change. Controversially, Miami's most urban Walmart is coming to the heart of the neighborhood, but on the other hand, the Design District to the north will soon have lots and lots of luxury shopping. The Related Group is building Hyde Midtown on the former 3 Midtown site. Oh, and across 29th street from Midtown's southern bounds, the Blue Starlite Urban Mini Drive In, an actual drive-in movie theater just opened. How cool is that?
