As far as metropolitan living goes, the New York to Miami transfer ranks as one of the top trends in the United States, according to U.S. Census's American Community Survey.
New York to Miami was the biggest distance covered by a significant number of movers. According to the data, there were 22,000 people who moved from the New York metro area to the Miami metro area between 2009 and 2013.
About one out of every five people who relocated in the last year, a total of about 8.5 million people in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, moved from city to city, according to Census statistics.
Migration patterns in the top ten metro areas that proved to be more popular were also much shorter. A lot of people relocated from L.A. to Riverside, for example, a move that totals only a few miles. So why are New Yorkers making the long distance change from New York to Miami? Many factors are certain to be at play. We can speculate, however, that our investment opportunities, the tax system, our more lenient policies and general cultural expansions have been attracting heavy hitters to the Magic City.
