Feb 13, 2015 February 13, 2015
The Planning Board of Miami Beach postponed a voted to create a new Whole Foods Market, due to traffic and design issues.
Crescent Heigts, a development firm, wants to make a 4-story building, which will include a Whole Foods supermarket, at 1901 Alton Road. This new development will replace the Wells Fargo bank that was there before, but will add a new branch in the development later on. It will also include three levels of parking.
The Whole Foods that is currently on Alton Road will stay open regardless of whether or not the new one is approved.
The proposal for the development included almost 4,600 square-feet of bank space, almost 40,000 square-feet of supermarket space, a café that holds around 150 people, and 300 parking spaces.
Board members were concerned about the size and the design of the building, as well as the traffic it would cause. The board will look over a new plan for a smaller store at the next meeting.
