North Beach is best known for its family-friendly vibe and is positioned firmly between the sensationalism of South Beach and high-end shopping at Bal Harbour. Historically, this has been the sleepy cousin to South Beach, but has been going through a renaissance of late with the addition of new constructions and planning of the city center. Away from the chaos, this laidback part of town boasts of crowd-free beaches, a great golf course, musical events at the North Beach Bandshell and scenic walks along the boardwalk.

How Safe is North Beach?

This underrated neighborhood gets fewer visitors and tourists compared to its hip cousin down south. Sure, being part of the beaches it too has its share of crime, but nothing as compared to the spring breakers’ favorite South Beach. Less crowds and a small-town-like community make North Beach safe enough for runners, bikers and dog walkers to frequent its scenic boardwalk.

Best Restaurants in North Beach

Now, North Beach may not have the unlimited fine-dining options of South Beach or Downtown, but it does have a host of affordable restaurants:

Shopping in North Beach

Shopping is rather underwhelming in North Beach, with mostly convenience stores and utility shops spread across its landscape. Even though there aren’t many big name malls out here, you will find a Publix Supermarket and two Walgreens along Collins Avenue plus another Walgreens on Normandy Isle. There is also a Starbucks and IHOP located next to the Publix. For better shopping options, one has to head north to the Bal Harbour Shops, or south to Lincoln Road.

The Best Located Condo in North Beach

Sitting directly on the beach and with a Publix Supermarket bang across the street, we’re picking the Carillon towers as the best located condos in North Beach. There’s also a Walgreens, the North Beach Bandshell plus a bunch of restaurants within walking distance. A short drive further takes you to two great golf courses close by (Normandy Shores and La Gorce)  and the Bal Harbour Shops, which is a world-class shopping destination for high-end brands.

Scooters in Miami: They’re a Keeper
Lifestyle Scooters in Miami: They’re a Keeper
In April, the City of Miami launched an electric scooter program that allows folks like me and you to grab any rental scooter they see on the road, unlock it with their app, and for about half the cost of an Uber or Lyft, scoot around town.  In my ripe old age of 42, I like to use things only if I truly find them useful, as opposed to doing it just to do it. But, these scooters really are practical and useful, especially for around-the-neighborhood tasks (like showing properties! :)).  While I was riding, I had so many thoughts about the pros and cons of using a scooter to get around town. I hope you find them useful too! Cover photo courtesy of Bird Scooters are a Faster Way to Feel Connected to the City I am always in my car and tend to have my “blinders” on. Cars are just not a great way to connect to the city in a positive way. Walking or riding past people is when you can get a real sense of who your neighbors and city visitors are, you can envision how the newest...
