Let’s go back. Way back to the time that gave Magic City its name. It’s time for the 39^th Annual Art Deco Weekend. From January 15-17 the Miami Design Preservation League presents the best time of year for locals and tourists to watch the city’s history unfold. And it’s LIVE.

The League’s fabulous achievements in preserving the city’s Art Deco roots is magnified by hosting one of the nation’s largest annual Art Deco architecture festivals.

Nearly 40 years ago, Art Deco Weekend was created to spark interest and preserve Ocean Drive’s beautiful signature buildings. Today, this huge traffic-stopping street party takes over Ocean Drive as a tribute to the historic era that makes up South Beach’s very DNA. This nostalgia-filled, vibrant festival brings you a classic car show, parade, live music, swing dancing, children’s arena with performances, antique arts and crafts, photo exhibits, lectures, outdoor film series, street festivals, food and even a retro fashion show.

It’s one of the most anticipated festivals in South Beach. And this year’s theme is “The Art of Architecture,” celebrating everything from Coral Rock to Exoskeletons. This family-friendly event is mostly free. Anyone interested in the design movement should definitely take a guided tour (for a reasonable fee), stroll through the museum and attend lectures. You can even pick from a range of themed tours including organized crime, LGBT, Lincoln Road, Jewish Miami, neon lights, Espanola Way and even a cocktail crawl.

It’s so Miami. You’ll attend events, dance with drag queens and stilt walkers and revel in an irresistibly happy vibe.
