It’s the perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of a world premiere and show your support for the Miami City Ballet as an esteemed sponsor.

In celebration of their 39th Anniversary Gala, this special evening at The Fillmore will feature an excerpt from the newly commissioned Carmen, choreographed by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa. The Belgian-Colombian dancer-choreographer is recognized as one of the most innovative young voices in ballet. She is also recognized as one of the few female choreographers excelling in narrative ballet.

This live preview will be followed by weekend performances at the Adrienne Arsht Center later in the month, which are mentioned below.

This gala evening will also honor Toby Lerner Ansin, founder of the Miami City Ballet, with the Visionary Philanthropy Award for his dedication and continued generosity.

Presented by Miami-Dade College, the festival will take over the city with screenings at some of the most important cultural venues, including the Olympia Theater, Silverspot Cinema, Coral Gables Art Cinema, and O Cinema South Beach.

With a lineup of nearly 200 films, this visual extravaganza brings you a choice of world premieres, documentaries, short films, and narrative features by emerging and established filmmakers. This year, the festival opens with two-time Oscar nominee Julie Delpy's Meet the Barbarians and concludes with Daniel Minahan's Florida Premiere of On Swift Horses. April 9-26: La La Land in Concert, Carmen by Florida Grand Opera and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and Nu Deco at the Arsht Center

There are many enchanting evenings scheduled at the Adrienne Arsht Center this month. Here are our top picks:

  • La La Land in Concert, April 9-10: If you loved the musical romance starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, then you won't want to miss this live concert version. A 50-piece orchestra and jazz ensemble will bring to life the dreamy, bittersweet story of the Academy Award-winning film with an unforgettable live performance of its celebrated score and piano sequences.
  • Carmen by Florida Grand Opera, April 12-15: This compelling reinterpretation explores the themes of social class, race, and gender through the context of political unrest. Directed by Maria Todaro, Florida Grand Opera’s performance of this classic tale is strong and impactful.
  • Carmen by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, April 25-27: If you’d prefer to experience a more thrilling and dramatic retelling, this ballet world premiere is a must-attend. Ochoa’s interpretation tells a bolder tale crackling with passion, power, and unexpected twists.
  • Nu Deco Ensemble’s Anniversary Concert, April 26: To celebrate its tenth season in the city, Miami’s 21st-century orchestra has organized an evening of outstanding performances. The event will feature a unique collaborative composition with Kishi Bashi, the world premiere of an original work by PJ Morton, a “best of Nu Deco” suite, and a special performance with a Grammy-winning guest artist.

April 24: Lexus Corporate Run

Join in the run or cheer on thousands of Miami’s fittest as they compete in what’s dubbed “South Florida’s largest office party” of the year:
a 5K race celebrating fitness, camaraderie, and community. Last year, the race welcomed more than 17,000 participants from 728 companies.

As teams run through the scenic streets of Downtown Miami, they will be competing for awards in 18 industry categories and team favorite T-shirt Contest (which Blackbook Properties is a proud past winner!). Post-race festivities will include an awards ceremony, delicious food, and great music.

We’ll be at the race this year! Come join our team! Or at least come by our tent and say hi!

Is April a good time to visit Miami?

April is a prime month to be in Miami. The city enjoys warm days, breezy evenings, and clear skies, with average temperatures ranging from 70-85°F and minimal rain, making it ideal for outdoor activities.

The beaches are at their best, with ocean temperatures perfect for swimming. Crowds begin to thin after the peak winter season and Spring Break, and Miami’s most popular destinations remain vibrant without feeling overwhelmingly packed.

It’s the ideal moment to explore the city’s outdoor lifestyle and experience everything this month has in store.
