Feb 13, 2023 February 13, 2023
If you’re considering moving to Miami, you might be wondering: What is the most artsy, trendy or edgy neighborhood in Miami? Look no further than the artisan paradise of Wynwood.
Unlike other artistic neighborhoods in big cities, Wynwood has not always been where people looked to live. However, it completely is now. Known for its infamous Wynwood Walls, this once industrial area is now a 50-city block arts district. Comparable to New York City’s SoHo, the Meat Packing District, or Greenwich Village, Wynwood is the heart of where Miami gets its reputation for producing some of the most famous street artists in the world.
Watch this video for a closer look at why or why not this artistic neighborhood could be the ideal home for you:
— Where is Wynwood, Miami?
So, where exactly is the Wynwood neighborhood in Miami? Wynwood sits just north of Downtown Miami, just west of Edgewater, and just south of Midtown Miami. Wynwood is very central to all of Miami and offers easy access to the Miami Beaches.
Wynwood’s location makes getting on I-95, which is the main north-south highway connecting Florida, or hopping east to go to Miami Beach from any of the 3 east-west causeways, simple and convenient. With Midtown and Downtown Miami as boarding neighborhoods, you can easily get to business districts, arts and entertainment venues, or pick up public transportation in Downtown Miami.
Soon, Wynwood will also have a commuter train station with will connect Downtown Miami and Brickell to the south, or other trains if you want to head north or to the airport.

—What Makes Wynwood Special?
Why would you want to live in Wynwood? Well, since Wynwood was once an industrial area, it has a plethora of warehouses. These spaces make it ideal as an off-beat destination for fun things to do, like art fairs, art walks, music festivals, and some incredible restaurants.
Wynwood is teaming with life, and there’s always something happening here. Most of Miami’s favorite low-key places to hang out are here. There’s Gramps for live music and bocce ball, Mana for music festivals, the monthly art walk, food markets, and craft festivals. Many warehouses have been converted into art galleries, yoga studios, craft breweries, restaurants, and live music venues. There’s always something going on in Wynwood almost every weekend.
Wynwood is a creative hub. Without a doubt, Wynwood is Miami’s most creative neighborhood. In addition to Wynwood Walls, its galleries and the monthly art walk, Wynwood continues to grow as a creative hub. Attracted by the creative vibe, tech incubators, national architectural and design firms and other businesses with groundbreaking ideas have decided to open their doors here.
Here, you will also find some of Miami’s best restaurants with inspiring energy and highly diverse menus for every palette. Not only is the space you're eating in visually stunning but the food is like art as well. There is a great variety of places to eat all in Wynwood with a creative touch and internationally known chefs behind them.
If you still need more art in your life, within a 2-mile radius, you have the de la Cruz Collection and the Institute of Contemporary Art in the Design District, both with acclaimed collections, along with several great galleries. In Downtown Miami you have the Perez Art Museum. During Art Basil in December, Wynwood is ground zero for major international art fairs and parties.
Additionally, Wynwood is special for its close proximity to high-end shopping and gourmet grocery stores.
Even more, Wynwood is special for having a good variety of school options close by.
What makes Wynwood special is that it is the most walkable neighborhood in Miami. Wynwood actually has more foot traffic than any other neighborhood in Miami. Offering something called “Woonerfs”, which are living streets exclusively meant for pedestrians and cyclists, it will be the first of its kind in Florida.
Wynwood is in the middle of a Renaissance with many new condos and apartments being built in a neighborhood fashion.

—Why You Might Not Want to Live in Wynwood
Wynwood is not for everyone. The appeal of Wynwood is within its artsy creative vibe that offers something different than the classic Miami highrises. So, if you're looking for a more modern, urban vibe with glimmering high rises, Brickell may be better for you.
Additionally, if you are looking for something waterfront and laidback, you may want to consider other neighborhoods such as Edgewater which offers amazing waterfront living options anchored by an 8-acre park.
But, if you are looking for an exciting, artistic neighborhood, Wynwood is for you.
