Historic Exotic Harbor Home on the Market for a Record $60 Million

A Key Biscayne home has been put on the market for a whopping $60 million. If sellers are successful, the price will set the record for most expensive residential property in the county.

The 12,000 square-foot home was built in the early 1990’s on the old site of the Mashta House. The home is placed on a two-acre property that extends into Biscayne Bay. The home also has its own private harbor, not to mention it looks really cool.

The Mashta House was built by W.J. Matheson in 1917 as an exotic party palace, but was abandoned in the 1930’s after hurricanes damaged the house beyond repair.

Matheson originally purchased around 1,700 acres of property in Key Biscayne, planting mostly fruit and coconut plantations, which quickly became the largest coconut plantation in the world.

After a few years, Matheson built the Mashta House, inspired by the Nile and an Egyptian theme.No one ever lived in the house, but many visited it before its ultimate destruction many years later.
