Causeway Will Be Closed for Nine Months, Hindering Bicyclists' Routes to South Beach

The causeway sees loads of bicyclists on the link between the mainland and Miami Beach. However, those bike riders are going to lose their route really soon. On June 1, the causeway's westernmost drawbridge will be closing for repairs for about nine months.
The bridge “will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists, as well as motor vehicles,” Francis Calderon, spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Public Works organization, "Pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists will be able to use the rest of the causeway, except for the area around the bridge, as it will be a construction site, and the bridge itself."
That translates to, bicycle riders must look for another way to cross over the bay. Without the Venetian Causeway, the other routes are notably horrible. The MacArthur Causeway and Julia Tuttle Causeway do not have a guard rail separating the cars driving 80 miles per hour and the bicycles on the narrow shoulder.
GLF Construction of Miami is going to take care of the project, which will cost approximately $10 million. The old crumbling bridge first caught the county's attention when a bus popped a hole in the pavement.
The bike riders might have to hang up their bike and pick up a car for the next nine months, as this will not be an easy one for bike riders.
