Design District Mixed-Use Development Scratched and Replaced with a Condo Tower

by Sep Niakan, September 03, 2014

One of the much anticipated mixed-use projects in Miami's Design District has been scratched and replaced with a condo development.

The Sweetbird Hotel, a 14-story mixed-use project, will not be built, according to developer Craig Robins. Instead, starchitect Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang Architects will design this new condo project in the Design District.

The new development is still planned for the area, being placed only slightly north of the old mixed-use site on Northeast First Avenue between 39th and 40th Streets.

Robins says that the project is currently “deep in the design process,” and they plan on beginning the final pre-construction phases soon.

Gang is well known for her work in Chicago on the Aqua tower, which meets the standards of modern Miami developments.
