Miami close to taking control of Brickell Avenue from the state

The City of Miami is wresting control of Brickell Avenue, the main block of its financial district, from the state.

Miami officials negotiated an agreement to take control of Brickell Avenue from the Florida Department of Transportation, the Miami Herald reported. The city grew frustrated with efforts to reduce the street’s speed limit and clean its shade trees. Once the deal is completed, Miami would operate and maintain Brickell Avenue.

Florida Department of Transportation is hosting a public forum on the issue tonight at the First Presbyterian Church at 609 Brickell Avenue.

State Senator Gwen Margolis told the Herald nothing is wrong with Brickell Avenue and the city does not need to take it over.
