For the first time in years, the Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board approved some serious demolition on Washington Avenue, with an unnamed project coming to the entire east side of the street at the 601-685 block of Washington Avenue.
The Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board approved the unnamed project and will allow Washington Squared, the developers, to demolish and revamp several houses on the street. Five buildings on Washington Avenue will be completely reworked. Three buildings will be demolished entirely. One building, a seven-story hotel, will be built from the ground up on the plot. The new hotel will have 312 rooms, with an average of 175 square-feet of space in each.
Andrew Joblon, a co-owner of Washington Squared, is teaming up with Imperial Companies on this project. Joblon also owns Turnbridge Equities, which purchased the buildings in 2015 for $36 million in anticipation of many new changes to the area. Morris Adjmi has designed the unnamed project, and Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates is teaming up with him for the architectural work.
