The MiamiCentral train station is moving along with its construction, though it is nothing more than a pile of dirt and concrete at the moment.
The under-construction nine-acre complex on Northwest First Avenue is the future location of the Brightline, the new Miami to Orlando passenger train.
MiamiCentral has been in the running to connect to the current Tri-Rail, South Florida’s train service that runs only to the west of Interstate 95. However, officials voted on a downtown link for the service, and it passed with flying colors.
“The project is moving forward,” Bonnie Arnold, a spokesperson for the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), said. SFRTA was the group that approved the Tri-Rail’s connection to MiamiCentral, but the plan needs state legislators to finalize and vote on the proposal before any action can be taken.
There are some unanswered questions about the new Brightline train, such as how much a ride from Miami to Orlando will cost. This will be a key factor in many tourists’ decision to ride the train, since air fare may be more cost effective. Plus, Brightline may not move fast enough for it to be worth it. Once the company releases this information, many people will be put at ease.
