In the last few years, downtown Miami has experienced all kinds of changes with many new condo towers, mixed-use projects, and megaprojects coming to town.
Because of these projects, more workers and residents are coming to town also. With the increase of population, there will be all kinds of new traffic and parking issues, but a few experts have given their top five solutions to these problems.
1. Use More Trains and Railways.
Experts have suggested expanding the rail system wherever it can be done. Underground transportation is probably not possible, but expanding the Metromover in downtown could lighten up the traffic. Some are curious if it will ever be expanded, since it is not a popular idea, but if there is an increase in demand for the railways, officials will catch on and develop on it.
2. Increase the Use Ride-Sharing Services.
Ride-sharing is not a new idea. There are many ways to share a ride these days. Uber, an app that comes highly recommended, offers these services. One could spend about $20, get a ride with some other people, get dropped off at work, not have to park their car for 20 minutes, and be productive in their workplace.
3. Use More Water Taxi or Ferry Services.
Some experts have recommended using Florida’s waterways to reach many destinations. Entrepreneurs have an opportunity for a new venture in Miami with water taxis.
4. Fix the Streets of Downtown Miami.
As many already know, driving around Art Basel was a pain. There were no real back roads to get around downtown. Reworking the existing streets or creating new roads could be a solution to those kinds of problems. Some also note that there are plenty of one-way streets, which could be reconfigured into two-way streets.
5. Get People to Move Downtown.
Downtown Miami is evolving. However, this evolution brought about more reasons for residents to live in downtown. Creating residential developments in downtown to attract people to live closer to where they work would ease the flow of traffic by cutting down commuting time. With additions of retail centers, restaurants, and other shops, residents would have more reason to live in the heart of it all.
