With Approved 960-Foot Brickell Market Place, a Headache for Brickell Heights?

Claro Development’s latest at 10 SW 8th Street is going to be a tall order, literally! Fresh-approved by the FAA, the Brickell Market Place is set to rise up to 954 feet above ground, or 960 feet above sea level. Approved after a seven-month review process, it would easily overtake the current tallest building in Miami – the Four Seasons Hotel and Tower standing at 789 feet. However, with a long list of supertalls awaiting approvals, the feat will pass on soon enough.

With the FAA setting new, higher limits for developments in certain parts of the city, the race to building Miami’s tallest tower is on. And, though being home to the biggest towers in southern United States would be a proud moment for Miami, not all Miamians will be able to share in the joy.

The approval of Brickell Market Place is a definite killjoy for some residents of the Brickell Heights East Tower. Replacing the strip mall anchored by Burger King, the supertall development is going to be a little too close for comfort for owners with north-facing units. It remains to be seen how much of an impact it will make and how big of a stink buyers with contracts on north-facing units will make about it.
