Watch: NYC Architect's Take on Edgewater vs. Downtown Miami Living

In our newest video interview hosted by Sep Niakan, Blackbook Properties’ founder and CEO, Roberta Feldman, PhD, an award-winning architect and professor emerita at the University of Illinois’ School of Architecture, contrasts her experiences living in Edgewater and Downtown Miami after permanently relocating to the Sunshine State.

Watch our exclusive video to learn the differences between two of Miami’s top neighborhoods from the eyes of an architect. Plus, discover what Miami project she’s most looking forward to and why she plans to stay in the area long term.

— Choosing Edgewater and Paramount Bay

After a lifetime of personal and professional accomplishments in New York City and Chicago, Roberta, along with her husband Richard, left the icy cold behind for a new chapter in sunny South Florida.

Roberta and Richard eventually chose Edgewater, one of Miami’s premier waterfront neighborhoods, as their homebase. They were drawn to the area’s incredibly strategic location, particularly its proximity to Wynwood, Margaret Pace Park, and various cultural offerings, as well as Edgewater’s growth potential, made evident by its expanding collection of luxury condos.

Among these luxury condos was Paramount Bay, a building Roberta immediately loved. As an architect, she was drawn to Paramount Bay’s timeless elegance, exemplified by its stunning landscaping, exquisite interior spaces, and refined materials.

— Moving to (and Loving) Downtown Miami

Six happy years later, Roberta, game for a new adventure and curious about the city’s evolving urban landscape, turned her attention to Downtown Miami.

While preparing to sell their residence at Paramount Bay, she connected with Sep, a fellow Edgewater resident and, conveniently, a luxury real-estate broker in Miami. Leveraging his condo-market expertise and deep knowledge of the building, Sep successfully guided the sale, securing an exceptional outcome and paving the way for the couple’s move to Downtown Miami.

In Downtown Miami’s busy and bustling streets, life feels different for Roberta. She can start the day admiring exhibits at the Pérez Art Museum Miami, grab a bite to eat at the adjacent Verde, and head to the Kaseya Center for a Miami Heat game, all in 24 hours.

There are gorgeous parks and water views for her to enjoy throughout the neighborhood, and she’s especially appreciative of the international vibe and unique art that shapes Downtown.

— Miami: Top Choice for Luxury Lifestyle

Miami’s vibrant, dynamic atmosphere, with its playful buildings and charming urban identity, deeply resonates with New Yorkers moving to Miami, and this award-winning architect was no exception. Not many cities in the world offer this unique blend of culture, diversity, and natural beauty.

And as a real-estate investor, Roberta feels confident buying into Miami’s bright future. A project that particularly excites her is the multimillion Underdeck, a 33-acre public space set to bridge the city’s neighborhoods, provide its residents with a safe opportunity for outdoor recreation, and contribute to Miami’s environmental sustainability efforts.

With preconstruction projects and new infrastructural initiatives constantly underway, Miami has officially become a place to play, work, and live, and Roberta’s story is a testament to this exciting transformation.
