Tradition has it that Thanksgiving is a time for families to come together and share their labor, food, stories, love – and most importantly to give thanks for all the precious moments and people in their lives. However, what if you could spend your Thanksgiving this year by truly making a difference? Doing something more than just eating, drinking and making merry?
Well, if you’re in Miami this November 27th, then you sure are in luck. For this Thanksgiving, our beloved city has a host of things that you can do to share good times with not just your loved ones, but the entire community.
So don’t forget to bring along your friends and family for that extra dose of fun!
Miami-special Thanksgiving 2014 Guide:
- Turkey Day Run – If you’re looking to work up that appetite before you sit down to indulge, then Tropical Park is just the place for you. Whether you choose to run the 5k, 10k, or simply watch your li’l one run the Kids’ Trot at the Baptist Health South Florida Turkey Day Run in Miami, it sure is a great way to begin the day on a healthy note with registrations beginning 6 a.m. on race day. Also, if you need more reason to cheer, you can bring along a minimum of 2 canned goods to contribute to the Baptist Health South Florida Food Drive for those in need to have a Happy Thanksgiving too!
- 40th Winternational Parade– Not an early bird? Don’t stress, as you can head over to NE 6th Avenue by 10 a.m. and enjoy competing bands, dance groups, professional floats and much more at the 40th Annual North Miami Winternational Thanksgiving Parade. You can also continue the revelry at the Jaycees' Winternational Festival, treating yourself to some fantastic food, music and carnival rides.
- Museum Fun – Want to make sure your kids do some learning this Thanksgiving? Then head over to the Miami Children’s Museum at 980 Macarthur Causeway to build a ‘Castle of Dreams’, go on an ‘Ocean Odyssey’ and conquer ‘Mt. MiChiMu’. Though the Museum is actually closed on thanksgiving, you can arrange a pre-visit and leave a special ‘paper leaf’ note on the Thanksgiving Tree in the lobby for all to see.
