In addition to all its attractions, which we’ll discuss below, in the last few years, its position as a creative hub has continued to grow, serving as a community for artists from around the world. Here are a few reasons why:

Wynwood Walls

When the Wynwood Art District first started gaining traction, developer Tony Goldman worked with the existing graffiti on the warehouse canvases to create a deep showcase of street art. And so in 2009, he invited artists from many countries to create Wynwood Walls, an outdoor gallery museum dedicated to the work of some of the world's most famous street and graffiti artists, as well as up-and-coming creators. 

This place is largely responsible for the transformation of the neighborhood and for attracting a community of international art lovers, making it the most Instagrammed place in all of South Florida. Nowadays, it’s an arts and creative epicenter that invites residents and visitors alike to explore the surrounding streets filled with stylish shops and restaurants.

Wynwood Art Walk

It’s one of the most popular events in the neighborhood and a key part of the roster of eclectic affairs happening regularly in Wynwood. Thousands of people come during this time each month searching for art, food, and a good time, with late-night openings by art galleries, restaurants, and fabulous boutiques. Essentially, it’s Miami's largest block party.

Here you can take a stroll down the street to view the murals, indulge in delicious international food with many trucks to choose from or visit some of Wynwood’s unique businesses, some of which only open their doors on these nights. Whether you’re a food lover, art enthusiast, eager shopper, or all of the above, there’s no better time to experience the rich culture of the area than the night of a Wynwood Art Walk.

International Contemporary Art

And if you still need more art in your life, there is a wonderful selection of contemporary art by world-renowned artists within a two-mile radius of your Wynwood condo or apartment. Some internationally respected art galleries here include the Margulies Collection, Oliver Cole Gallery, and the Fredric Snitzer Gallery, to name a few, and just a few blocks away in the Design District are the de la Cruz Collection and the Institute of Contemporary Art, which showcase acclaimed artists. Also, a short drive will take you to the Perez Art Museum.

And during Art Basel every year in early December, Wynwood is ground zero for several major art fairs and events, including Red Dot Art Fair. In this prestigious festival of international contemporary art, one can expect live paintings of spectacular new murals and you might even spot a few famous faces enjoying the area.

Even though you’ll probably want a car living here, you won’t need one for the most part as Wynwood is one of Miami’s most walkable neighborhoods and has more foot traffic than any other place. And the City of Miami is doing even more to enhance this. As part of a new plan, Wynwood is getting even more pedestrian-friendly roads and sidewalks, so residents have everything they need within a few blocks. Additionally, plans are in motion for the Brightline and Metrorail trains to have a stop here.

In Wynwood, not only is the space you’re eating in usually visually stunning but the food is like art as well. Whether you go for a coffee or brunch, a quick lunch, or a full-out dinner, you’ll find something for everyone and every budget a stone's throw away from your Wynwood condo.

There are great boutiques throughout Wynwood, from cool quirky shops to artisan finds. Here you’ll surely find unique treasures with all the forward-thinking fashion brands, designer ateliers, singular home shops, and marketplaces that support small local businesses by showcasing their products. If you are looking for more established brands, Midtown is not far away with popular brands and grocery stores. And if luxury shopping is your thing, you’d best head a few blocks north to the Design District.

There is a good variety of schools around the neighborhood. Some of the most popular ones are Miami Arts Charter School and the Design and Architecture Senior High School, or DASH as it is commonly known, in the Design District. For the younger ones, there is Piccoli Bambini Preschool and the private Centner Academy in Edgewater.

Lively Event Spaces

Because the Wynwood Art District was an industrial area once known as the Garment District, it has a lot of warehouses with a few Wynwood condos for sale. Now, the lively art scene and eclectic murals have transformed those into art galleries, yoga studios, craft breweries, restaurants, and live music venues, with events happening every weekend and during weeknights, too.

Most of Miami’s favorite low-key places to hang out are here. For example, there’s Gramps for drinks and a great night out, Mana Wynwood for music festivals and art fairs, or Wynwood Brewing Company for a chilled beer with friends. Believe it or not, Wynwood is also very health and wellness focused neighborhood, with several yoga studios, gyms and wellness focused cafes. If yoga is part of your daily life, mainstay studios here include Wynwood Yoga, Sol Yoga, Mimi Yoga, and Love Life Cafe. If you want more heavy lifting, boxing and HIT in your life, professional athlete and celeb trainer Legacy Fit is here, plus several specialized gyms. 

— #3 Great Location

Wynwood is central to all of Miami’s key neighborhoods and places: just north of Downtown Miami, just west of Edgewater, and just south of Midtown Miami. It is also close to major roadways like the causeways heading to Miami Beach and I-95, so whatever you don’t find here it surely is somewhere near. 

Also, Wynwood will soon have a commuter rail station that will connect people to Downtown and Brickell to the south, or other trains if you want to go elsewhere such as Miami International Airport.

— #4 New Wynwood Condo Projects Coming

After years of being a strictly industrial zone, you could say the neighborhood is going through a renaissance, with many new Wynwood condos for rent and sale. What’s interesting is that this area has different zoning and lower density than other central districts of Miami, so you’re getting design-oriented boutique buildings coming in, not your typical towering high rises.

Buildings like Diesel Wynwood, from the Italian fashion brand, and NoMad Residences, from the developers of NoMad Hotels, have both chosen Wynwood to open their very first residential-only buildings because this is the place to be if you’re a creative or design-oriented person searching for a brand new home in Miami. These types of low-rise condos, which are only 8 to 10 stories, with 100 to 300 units, will only make Wynwood that much more unique and sophisticated while keeping its edginess. — Who May Not Like Wynwood?

The appeal of Miami's Wynwood Art District is its artsy vibe with its eclectic murals, that it’s super walkable, and that it offers something different from the massive Miami resort-style high rises. So, if you’re looking for a more modern, urban vibe with glimmering highrises, a Brickell condo may be better for you.

Similarly, if you want waterfront living or spacious green areas then you’ll want to consider neighborhoods like Edgewater, which is on the bay, has some amazing water-view living options, and is anchored by an 8-acre park. If you want easy beach access, then one of the Miami Beach neighborhoods such as South Beach or South of Fifth will be better for you.

Finally, if you’re looking for quieter living that feels a bit less urban and with amenities that might appeal more to children or nature lovers, we’d probably recommend Edgewater, Coconut Grove, or Key Biscayne.
